Riftbound's sixth set, Legacy, comes with the tagline "Bear the Banner. Forge Your Legacy." Its theme is regional identity: each champion represents the spirit of their region, from Demacia to Bilgewater. It is also a turning point for the game, with new booster contents, the first set designed for draft and updated card templating. Riot promises a set that will "leave a lasting legacy" on Riftbound.
Riftbound Legacy releases on January 29, 2027. Pre-Rift events will take place in stores from January 22 to 28, giving players the chance to play with the new cards a week early. Since Radiance (October 23, 2026), all languages launch at the same time, so Legacy should arrive simultaneously worldwide.
Riot has already revealed eight of the set's twelve new legends and promises "four more friends" to come. The eight announced champions cover the six regions of the set:
The last four legends remain secret and will most likely be revealed during the December and January previews. We will update this article as soon as they are announced.
Starting with Legacy, Riot is replacing one Common card in every booster with a slot dedicated to a Legend or a Battlefield (roughly 50/50). Boosters will therefore contain 6 Commons instead of 7. The goal: make sure new players easily find the legends they need, without yet another duplicate legend taking up an exciting slot. Showcase Legends and Battlefields stay in the overnumber slots.
Legacy is the first set Riot has truly designed for draft. Mechanics create synergies between champions that share a colour, and "signpost" cards at lower rarities, which you open often, signal the set's strategies. Store Rune Kits also include a new unit card, the Minion, which players can freely add to their draft deck, like runes, to fill it out.
The first Legacy card revealed is Kinkou Initiate, a 3-cost, 3-Might Ionian unit illustrated by Six More Vodka. Its text reads: "When I enter → Draw 1 if your other units have total Might 5 or more." It already shows two templating changes coming to every card in the set.
First, an arrow now separates a triggered ability's condition from its effect. Second, a grey backer clearly highlights targets in rules text. Riot is also simplifying the wording: tokens are now "created" instead of "played", and "When you play me" becomes "When I enter". The packaging has been revealed too: displays and 14-card boosters with stained-glass artwork, featuring Lux.
One last tease: some Legacy cards will feature artwork inspired by League Classic. Riot showed two first illustrations in a sketched style on aged paper, including Ashe with her ice bow.
With 93 Showcase cards out of 239, Legacy promises exciting openings. Showcase cards, the new legends and the League Classic artworks will be the best candidates for grading. As soon as you pull them, slide them into a sleeve and then a toploader: foil finishes scratch very easily, and a single micro-scratch can lower the surface grade. Also check centering and corners before sending your cards: PCC-Grading grades standard-size Riftbound cards in every language.
Riot has already revealed what comes next: Set 7, The Reckoning, releases on April 30, 2027 with 264 cards and legends such as Aurelion Sol, Cho'Gath, Shyvana, Vayne and Zilean. Set 8, planned for Q3 2027, takes players to Bandle City, and Set 9 is expected at the end of the year. See you at Convergence Fest in December for the first Legacy cards: we will keep this article updated as reveals come in.
